The August meeting will be at Alysia's (people only - no dogs) for a BBQ and potluck. Shannon and Jody (and Deb if they can recruit her) are in charge of games.

Based on an excellent report from a visit by former RCNM members to the Four Corners Pure Bred Rescue, the club voted to contribute $100 to the organization. Susie and Jody plan to follow up with a visit of their own.

    Meeting was adjourned at 7:23PM

Gunnar was the only guest at the meeting. He mostly slept.

  • Insulated Doghouses Required by Law

Insulated doghouses required by law in AlbuquerqueHaving an outdoor Rottweiler in an enclosed space with a well protected dog house is fine. But leaving your best friend to deal with the cold wet weather without dry, clean, housing is both cruel and, in ABQ, against the law. Take care of your dogs and call authorities when you see an animal in a dangerous situation. Please read the article on the KRKE website by clicking on this link.

  • Charming & Chic Bowtique

Charming and Chic BowtiqueLast night Marissa from Charming & Chic Bowtique stopped by to show off her latest fashions in dog fanciers apparel. After we got done gushing about how cool they were she was nice enough to leave us with a few as door prizes.

Deb Tabor and Cindy Conley each got a large Bow

then Agnus Urban and Natalie Scott each took home a small version.

The Bows are a great way to encourage bystanders to interact with your dog.

Marissa's Bow's are awesome, consider some for your pet gift exchanges."

  • A Very Successful 2018 Carting Trial

On November 4th the Rottweiler Club of New Mexico hosted our annual fall Carting Event. Judges Dede Brownstein and Deb Tabor called the shots for 7 Rotties, 2 Bouvier’s and 1 German Shepard Dog. The weather was friendly, crisp in the morning then warming in the afternoon. Pictures from the event can be viewed in the Carting 2018 Gallery

The venue at Balloon Fiesta Park was just right with a visible presence at the Sandia Cluster and LOTS of distractions. The set-up crew arrived at 7:30 am.

The competition started at 9AM. Eight Dogs earned either their first title or advanced a prior title. The Team of Quesa (a Rottie) and Mitzi (a German Shepard Dog) run by Patty Opperman was also a treat.

  • Diet and Canine Heart Disease

Article from the FDA: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is alerting pet owners and veterinary professionals about reports of canine dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) in dogs eating certain pet foods containing peas, lentils, other legume seeds, or potatoes as main ingredients. These reports are unusual because DCM is occurring in breeds not typically genetically prone to the disease. The FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine and the Veterinary Laboratory Investigation and Response Network, a collaboration of government and veterinary diagnostic laboratories, are investigating this potential association.
